If you are looking to fight anxiety, it would be a worthwhile step to first recognize our personal obsession with everything that goes on around us, and also within of ourselves. Many anxiety sufferers have a very similar mindset, and obsession is a common occurrence. If you wish to fight anxiety, recognizing this problem will do lots for you in terms of your own personal development and happiness.
When speaking of obsession in terms of how to fight anxiety, it would probably be very good to see how closely it relates to the concept of ‘perfectionism.’ When we as anxiety sufferers obsess, it is usually over something that falls short of our lofty standards. Whether it be the product of our efforts, such as our work, or how we perceive that others perceive us, in the mind of the anxiety sufferer, everything has to either be perfect, or run perfectly.
To fight anxiety, it would be extremely beneficial to learn how to relax just a little more. Our obsession over the tiniest of details does nothing to help us. Usually these details are so small that they wouldn’t even be noticed by anyone but ourselves. In addition, if there truly is a problem, thinking clearly without worry will allow us to handle the situation so much more effectively.
Obsession and perfectionism go hand in hand in yet another desire rampant in the minds of those inflicted with anxiety disorders. Have you ever mistaken a person’s passing comment for something much more malicious, only to then to find out the truth wasn’t so harmful after all? It would do you well to remember that when all is said and done, everybody has their own little quirks – we all put on our trousers one leg at a time. Nobody expects you to be perfect.
Becoming aware of obsessive behaviour and perfectionism within ourselves is extremely helpful to fight anxiety. Remember, it is not a necessity that every tiny detail of everything be perfect. In a similar vein, you don’t always have to be trying to be your ‘perfect self’ to everybody that you run across – we all have our personal quirks; nobody is an exception. Keep these few little tips in mind when wanting to fight anxiety – it will do wonders for your efforts, leaving you free to live a happy and worry-free life.
