Market America Review — Scam or Legitimate Business Opportunity

Posted by Rob Tritt at 12th June, 2009

In 1992, James Ridinger founded Market America. The company has its headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina. Market America is a product brokering and marketing company.

When someone joins Market America, that person becomes an “unfranchise” owner. The idea behind an unfranchise is that someone would have all of the benefits of a traditional franchise (i.e. access to training, a proven system, combined resources for purchasing) but without all of the franchise fees that come with owning a franchise.

After starting with Market America, the first thing that a new unfranchise owner must do is to qualify his new unfranchise. This means that he has to purchase 200-600 BV ($250-750) worth of company products initially, and then he must purchase 50-150 BV ($63-$188) thereafter.

The next step for the new unfranchise owner is for the unfranchise to be activated. Keep in mind that Market America does operate as a multi-level marketing company, so the new unfranchisee will need to rfecruit two new people. Typically, the new recruits will be recruiting from their warm market (friends and family). After two new recruits have been added to the unfranchisee’s network, the unfranchise is said to be activated.

Once that is all done, and the owner’s network has become large enough, then he / she will begin receiving commissions. Of course, going forward, there are also going to be several hundred dollars that are going to have to be spent on various support materials as well, and the monthly standing order of products.

The compensation plan for Market America is, reportedly, one of the more generous plans which is offered by multi-level marketing companies. If an unfranchise owner has 100 people on his team, and each of them is ordering 100 BV ($125) worth of the company’s products each month, then the unfranchise owner could expect to make approximately $1500 per week.

As illustrated above, Market America is an option for generating a decent part-time income. Although I haven’t tried the products for myself, I understand that there are a large number of products that are offered, and that they are of very good quality.

It might be worth the effort if someone were interested in some decent extra money and the high quality products are definitely a plus; however, if someone wants to make some serious money, then this might not be the best organization for them.
