Types Of Visitor Insurance Plans

There are two main types of visitor insurance. These two forms are fixed rate policies and comprehensive policies. Different providers will either offer one or the other, but sometimes they can offer both.

A ‘fixed benefits’ policy means that each individual medical expense has its own limited coverage. These amounts are usually less than the policy?s total maximum medical limit. This means that every type of medical expense is considered separately.

As an example, if a traveler breaks their arm while abroad, the patient has to pay the difference between the fixed limit per occurrence and the actual medical bill. Fixed benefits typically provide sufficient coverage for those not expecting multiple incidents. However, if multiple injuries or illnesses happen on the same trip, the fixed plan may not cover all expenses of the traveler.

Fixed benefits policies are more affordable than comprehensive policies and are attractive to those who can take the risk that they will not become sick or injured during their stay. It provides some protection, which is better than none, of course.

With a comprehensive visitor insurance policy, any injury will be covered up the maximum allowed by the policy itself. No matter how many individual types of care are required, the maximum policy amount is available to cover them.

For example, if a visitor suffered from an infection while on a trip, the comprehensive visitor insurance would use up the entire policy amount if necessary to pay for this expense. The same infection under a fixed rate policy, however, would have limited coverage and the insured very likely bear a good portion of the medical expenses.

The big difference between fixed rate and comprehensive visitors medical insurance is the degree of payout. Both styles of coverage have similar policy maximums. It really just depends upon the customer?s preference. The fixed benefits plan you obtain limited coverage at a cheaper price.

They key point to remember in insurance for visitors is that it is vital for any international traveler. Health insurance for visitors can be such a benefit. Whether through a fixed rate or comprehensive policy, any visitors insurance is better than none at all.
